Back pain is generally caused by misaligned vertebrae in the back (subluxation) causing pinching or irritation to the nerves that exit the spine. It can result in back stiffness due to limited motion in the joints at that level, uneven weight bearing on the discs between the vertebrae compromising their integrity, and tension in the muscles of the upper or lower back area.

In many instances these subluxations are caused by either the cumulative effect of many smaller things such as sleeping in an abnormal position, poor posture (i.e. poor workstation ergonomics, slouching, leg crossing, holding children on your hips, etc.), and repetitive motions or bigger incidents such as falls, sports injuries or auto accidents. Subluxations in the back can also lead to radiating pain, weakness, or numbness and tingling in the buttocks, hips, groin, legs (sciatica), and feet.

Back pain is the number one cause of workplace injuries and one of the most common reasons for missed work. Chiropractic care provides patients with a safe, non-invasive, non-addictive alternative to prescription medications or over-the-counter pain medications (OTCs), which are commonly prescribed to patients with pain.

In the office, patients are assessed with a thorough health history, orthopedic and neurologic exam, and x-rays if needed. The doctor reviews results, presents findings and makes recommendations for pain relief and correction of the cause of symptoms as well as answers questions. The doctor then provides a safe, gentle, effective spinal adjustment to correct subluxations. The end result is pain relief, subluxation correction, and improved quality of life.
